Weekend Update: 4/28/23 - 5/1/23

Weekend Update

The information below represents some of the notable calls for service handled by the Verona Police Department between Friday (4/28) evening and Monday (5/1) morning.  This information is not all-inclusive, but rather preliminary information gathered from officers who investigated the calls.

  • 4/28/23 @ 11:43 p.m. – An officer was flagged down by an individual who wanted to report an earlier road rage incident.  The complainant did not have enough information about the offending vehicle for the officer to investigate.
  • 4/29/23 @ 12:30 a.m. – Patrol officers located 3 residential garage doors which were open.   Each homeowner was contacted and shut their garage doors.  In an attempt to prevent property crimes, VPD officers will try to contact homeowners to notify them of open garage doors or other circumstances which may make them susceptible to becoming victims of property crimes.
  • 4/26/23 @ 12:00 p.m. – An Uber driver requested officers check the welfare of an individual who the driver had just provided a ride to.  It was reported the individual was extremely intoxicated and had blood on himself.   Officers located the 44-year-old male (Verona) who claimed to have fallen and injured himself several days prior and denied alcohol consumption.  It was clear the male was intoxicated, and he was arrested for felony bail jumping, as the man had two open felony cases which prohibited him from consuming alcohol.  The male was booked into jail after receiving medical clearance at a hospital.
  • 4/30/23 @ 4:50 p.m. – An officer checked on a vehicle with fogged up windows parked on a street in an area with no homes, but active construction.  The officer found an 18-year-old male from Verona and an 18-year-old female from Delavan in the vehicle, and also detected an odor of marijuana.  The female was cited for possession of THC and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
  • 4/30/23 @ 8:00 p.m. – Officers were dispatched to a domestic disturbance involving a 32-year-old male and a 33-year-old female.  Following the investigation, the female was arrested for Battery-Domestic Abuse and Disorderly Conduct-Domestic Abuse.  The female was booked into jail.
  • 4/30/23 @ 9:06 p.m. – An officer stopped a vehicle for operating with suspended registration.  The driver, a 40-year-old male from Verona, was arrested for an outstanding warrant from Columbia County and he was booked into jail.  He was also cited for operating with a revoked drivers license.
  • 4/30/23 @ 11:33 p.m. – Information was aired of a vehicle which was traveling eastbound in the westbound lanes of USH 18/151.  Officers checked the area and were unable to locate the vehicle.
  • 5/1/23 @ 2:11 a.m. – An officer stopped a vehicle because the registered owner had a suspended drivers license.  Signs of impairment were detected in the 38-year-old male operator; however, he refused to perform a series of Standardized Field Sobriety Tests.  The man was arrested for OWI – 5th Offense.  He refused to provide an evidentiary breath test and a warrant was drafted and endorsed by a judge, authorizing the seizure of the offender’s blood.  The man was booked into jail on the 5th Offense OWI and a Probation Hold, and charges of Operating After Revocation and Bail Jumping will also be referred to the DA’s Office.  The 29-year-old female passenger was cited for Possession of Marijuana.
