On Friday, September 1, 2023, at approximately 3:06 a.m., an officer of the Verona Police Department was monitoring traffic in the 200 block of East Verona Avenue when she detected the strong odor of marijuana as a vehicle passed. Shortly after the officer began following the vehicle, the driver turned into the parking lot of a closed business on North Main Street. The officer stopped the vehicle, and in addition to marijuana, the odor of alcohol was also detected by the officer. The driver was ultimately arrested for Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated – First Offense. She was also cited for Open Intoxicants in a Motor Vehicle.
During the investigation, a handgun and a 50 round magazine were seized from the vehicle. The passenger was arrested for Going Armed with a Firearm While Intoxicated and Felony Bail Jumping.
Pursuant to the directive of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in the Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicity, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation, and that the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
